Stories of Grace & Testimonies

Stories of Grace & Testimonies

Personal testimonies and stories of God's transformative work reveal the power of grace to change lives. These accounts from Grace Bible Church members demonstrate how God meets people in their deepest struggles and transforms them through community and faith.

Finding Christ in Community

Amy's Journey from Iran to Faith

Amy (Amir) came to Texas from Isfahan, Iran, carrying curiosity about faith but no clear direction. When his roommate invited him to church after a trip to Costco, Amy discovered something profound at Grace Bible Church. (Who will show you the way?, 0:31)

"So, when I came to Texas and people started inviting me over, that spoke a lot to me," Amy shared. At a Lake Bryan gathering with the Grace community, he observed believers living with consistency in their spiritual disciplines. This witness showed him "ideas and beliefs that I wanted to have in my life and I saw all of that in these people." (Who will show you the way?, 0:45)

The pivotal moment came during a Breakaway event when Amy realized his need for Christ: "I knew that on my own without the help of Christ I have nothing I am nothing." This realization led him to understand that while community can "sharpen me and community can draw me closer to God," his ultimate dependence must be "on the Lord himself alone." (Who will show you the way?, 1:32)

International Outreach and Prayer

During a missions trip to Eastern Europe, Grace students created opportunities to share Christ through practical service. They hosted an "American Kitchen" event, teaching students to make burgers and sweet potato fries while building relationships. (Endya Prayer Circle // Story of Grace, 0:05)

A powerful moment occurred when three Grace students sat in a circle with two Muslim girls, discussing faith. When the Christian students asked to pray over their new friends, something extraordinary happened: "You just see tears like falling from their faces onto the ground." This led to opportunities to share the gospel and explain "how the Lord had changed my life." (Endya Prayer Circle // Story of Grace, 1:20)

Overcoming Mental Health Struggles

Austin's Battle with Depression

Austin Thumasathit struggled with depression and anxiety for years, feeling distant from God, family, and community. For three years, he spoke to no one about his struggles until reaching a breaking point during his freshman spring semester at Texas A&M. (Hope Afflicted // Austin Thumasathit's story, 0:32)

At his lowest point, standing in a parking garage contemplating self-harm, Austin received an unexpected text from a Bible study leader he'd just met at Grace Bible Church. The leader was coming to the same parking garage "just to chill and hang out." Austin recognized this as "too much of a coincidence" and realized "God was there for me at that very moment." (Hope Afflicted // Austin Thumasathit's story, 2:42)

Through this experience and the support of his Grace community, Austin discovered the truth of James 1, learning that "God uses pain to be able teach us" and that "God has a plan for us and it is always for our benefit." His motivation now centers on sharing how "different life is with Christ in dealing with things like mental health." (Hope Afflicted // Austin Thumasathit's story, 3:40)

From Emptiness to Purpose

Meghan's Transformation from Party Life

Growing up in a lukewarm Christian household, Meghan found herself drawn to the party scene during her first two years of college. "I turned to things that I shouldn't have to like keep me from being lonely," she recalled. When a friend posted about a Grace Bible study on a sorority Facebook group, Meghan decided to give it a chance. (Meghan Rouse's Story of Grace, 0:15)

The magnetic love for Jesus displayed by the Grace community drew her in completely. During a missions trip to Eastern Europe, while prayer walking through campus in Yana surrounded by mountains, Meghan experienced a profound moment: "I just started crying and I was like this is where I'm supposed to be and I've never been able to like like confidently say like I'm where I'm supposed to be but in that moment I was like God's here and like he has a purpose for me and I finally like see it." (Meghan Rouse's Story of Grace, 1:05)

Julia's Journey from Temptation to Discipleship

Julia Newman struggled with the combination of high school temptations and college freedom, leading her into emptiness through the party scene. When she joined a summer Bible study through Grace, she was drawn to the community's magnetic love for Jesus. "Their acceptance showed me that you know Jesus really accepts me and and God doesn't see me or my past mistakes but he sees Jesus," she discovered. (Julia Newman's Story of Grace, 0:41)

By her senior year, Julia began discipling a younger student, finding joy in both encouraging and being encouraged. She recognized that Grace's emphasis on discipleship "plays a huge part in our walks with the Lord." (Julia Newman's Story of Grace, 1:09)

Stories of Everyday Bravery

Carol's Divine Appointment

Carol Lockhart found herself on a flight from College Station to Colorado Springs, seated next to a scared young woman. Despite feeling a barrier between their different lifestyles, Carol overcame her timidity to reach out. She reflected on the scripture that says "Jesus was moved with compassion" and realized "that's all it took was to be a little bit braver in a situation that I wasn't comfortable with." (Carol Lockhart: A story of everyday bravery, 1:05)

Finding Belonging Through Suffering

Sean and Jenny's Story of Resilience

After Sean's spinal injury in 2005, he and his mother Jenny faced years of struggle and isolation in Dallas. Their motivation came from wanting Sean's life to have meaning despite his physical limitations. When Sean expressed a desire to move to College Station after attending a ballgame, Jenny made the commitment to relocate. (Sean & Jenny's Story of Grace, 1:20)

At Grace Bible Church, they found unprecedented acceptance. "I don't even think about what I can't do a junction because it's never an issue for anyone," Sean shared. The church became "the most non-judgmental group of people an inclusive group of people and you can just feel the love of God from the members of this church." Sean found "a sense of belonging I haven't felt in 12 and a half years." (Sean & Jenny's Story of Grace, 2:01)

From Despair to Calling

Micah's Transformation

Micah Stark lived without purpose, thinking life was "all an accident or all some kind of sick joke." When depression overwhelmed him, he noticed something different in the Grace community—"a certain level of joy just just a joyousness" that he didn't possess. Initially motivated by selfish desire for their happiness, Micah gradually opened himself to God. (Every Knee: Micah Stark's Story of Grace, 0:34)

Through understanding God's love, Micah discovered freedom from sin and a new purpose: "I'm not on earth for me I'm on earth for him." He became a small group leader at Grace, wanting "people like me to walk in the door who are looking for answers." (Every Knee: Micah Stark's Story of Grace, 2:18)

God's Purpose Through Hardship

The Perry Family's Journey

When Gabe Perry was born with bilateral clubfoot, his parents faced another medical challenge after previous struggles. The initial diagnosis led to a more serious discovery of an undiagnosed neurogenetic disorder affecting Gabe's mobility. (Gabe Perry: A story of God's healing purpose, 0:52)

During this difficult season, instead of blaming God, Gabe's father found himself "saying no that's actually the brokenness of this world and I was tired of fighting the wrong person." This shift in perspective led to unexpected ministry opportunities, including launching a foster care support network that grew to 800 people, demonstrating how God can use personal struggles to serve others. (Gabe Perry: A story of God's healing purpose, 2:38)

Remarkably, Gabe began walking just before his second birthday, defying medical expectations and bringing great joy to the Grace community who had prayed for and supported the family throughout their journey.

Learning to Love Others

The Gentry Family's Growth

The Gentry family discovered Grace Bible Church's commitment to teaching "from the scripture they were teaching the grace of Christ they were loving college students and they were loving missionaries and they were loving each other." This influenced them to learn "how to love other people and learning how to pour out our lives into other people's lives instead of looking for everybody else to take care of us." (The Gentry family's Story of Grace, 0:02)

Their transformation included applying an eternal perspective to life, learning to "hold things loosely that I used to hold very tight" and recognizing that since "you just cannot take it with you so you might as well give it away." (The Gentry family's Story of Grace, 1:04)

From Missions Dreams to Local Ministry

Ian Weber's Redirected Calling

Ian Weber felt called to missions in Japan and planned to apply for the JET program to teach English. However, while completing his application, he experienced "this overwhelming feeling of this isn't where I want you yet." God clearly redirected him from international missions to youth ministry, showing him that "admissions is an awesome thing but it's not where I have you right now." (Ian Weber's Story of Grace, 0:21)

This redirection led Ian to discover his passion for youth ministry and deeper involvement at Grace. He recognized that "when you're not just consuming from the church but you're also giving back like there's so much more depth that goes into that." His motivation became sharing the life he'd found: "I know that this is where life is found and so I want to do everything that I can to give that life out." (Ian Weber's Story of Grace, 1:31)

These testimonies demonstrate God's faithfulness in meeting people in their deepest needs—whether depression, addiction, physical challenges, or spiritual emptiness—and transforming them through grace and community. Each story reflects the biblical truth that God works all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28), using even painful circumstances to draw people to Himself and equip them to serve others.
